Cabernet Sauvignon 'Champoux Vyd', Januik Winery

Originally planted in 1972, the Champoux Vineyard is one of the outstanding vineyards in Washington State; arguably the best vineyard in for Cabernet Sauvignon in the state. Located in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, this vineyard consistently produces wines with exceptional depth, complexity, and elegance. This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 22 months in primarily new French oak. The nose reveals cassis and blackberry fruit along with cocoa and spice notes. It lingers over the palate with supple, well-balanced tannins. 232 cases produced.

Review:
Full red-ruby. Classic Cabernet Sauvignon scents of cassis, black cherry, licorice, mocha and spices. Plush, sweet and surprisingly pliant, offering very ripe flavors of dark berries, mocha and spices. Very broad, showy Cabernet wine with smooth, ripe tannins. Doesn't have quite the structure or reserve of the 2016 edition but wonderfully silky, fine-grained and long, with plush, supported tannins and lingering spices. This can be enjoyed today. One of Mike Januik's sweetest red wines in 2017.
