Press & Reviews
A soft, luscious Barolo with succulent, ripe strawberries and cherries with some bark and hazelnuts. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins and lots of subtle character at the finish. Drink after 2023.
The 2016 Barolo Gattera is powerful and ample in the glass, with good depth and plenty of persistence. The Gattera needs time to fully come together after its bottling, but it has good structure and plenty of personality. Iron, smoke, licorice, leather, scorched earth and dark fruit give the Gattera a decidedly dark feel.
Attractive and alluring, restrained brambly red berries and spice gain intrigue from subtle truffle and rosehip nuances. Fine-boned tannins build slowly across the mid-weight palate, providing an elegant frame to the soft, ripe fruit. Though not the most profound, this is beautifully balanced with a lovely mouth-cleansing quality. The largest of Revello’s holdings, Gattera is the only one which includes some fresher east-facing sections. It ages exclusively in 15hL Slavonian oak casks, whereas the rest of the estate’s Baroli see time in French barriques.
