Virxen de Galir
We are excited to announce our partnership with Virxen de Galir, not least because we at Skurnik have a particular soft spot for the beautiful wines of Galicia in Spain’s cool, green northwest. Virxen de Galir (that’s Gallego for Virgen del Galir) was founded in 2002 in the schistous valley of the Galir river in Éntoma, a village traversed by the famed Camino de Santiago pilgramage route. They farm some twenty hectares of Godello & Mencía, mostly on terraced vineyards at around 600 meters of altitude. There’s one reference of each color, both under the moniker ‘Pagos del Galir’. Since the estate’s recent purchase by legendary Rioja firm CVNE, the high-quality raw materials have been able to shine brighter than ever thanks to capital improvements in the winery. In the best tradition of Galicia, the wines are well-made, affordable, refreshing, and delicious.
