Kosta Browne
Kosta Browne began as a dream shared by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne. In the summer of 1997 Dan and Michael decided to venture into winemaking. They saved tip money for two months and eventually had enough to buy a half ton of Pinot Noir, a used barrel and an old hand-crank stemmer-crusher, a purchase that marks the beginning of Kosta Browne. Since that vintage, they have nurtured relationships with the best growers and honed their winemaking skills, making sure to focus on the vision and values with which they began.
Today, Dan, Michael and founding partner Chris Costello work very closely to maintain the quality and consistency of the entire Kosta Browne experience. In 2011, only a short amount of time since their first bottling in 2000, Kosta Browne was heralded as the top Pinot Noir produced in California, (2009 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir). This accomplishment exhibits the development of Kosta Browne’s importance to the region and the exceptional level of their wines.
“Flavorful, intense wines – that is our goal. We believe every wine should be bursting with flavor. This intensity should be part of a greater balance. We find that each of our vineyards has its own “sweet spot” of balance. It is our charge to guide each vineyard to its optimum flavor potential. Our single vineyard wines are blended to express the specific qualities and consistencies of our pedigreed vineyards. Pinot Noir is the perfect palate to define the terroir of these plantings. We offer two appellation wines: our Sonoma Coast and Russian River. These wines are blended to represent the best of our vineyards in each specific appellation. Quality is of utmost importance with these blends.”
