J. Moss Winery
James and Janet Moss began pursuing their dream of making artisanal, small production lots of Cabernet Sauvignon from the renowned Napa Valley in the year 2000, beginning with a tiny plot of grapes grown on the property they had made their home. Over following the years, James learned the intricacies of enology by working alongside two notable winemakers: Mark Jessup, former winemaker from Jessup Cellars, Robert Mondavi and Opus One, and Gustavo Brambila, former winemaker for Chateau Montelena and Grgich Hills. At long last in 2010, J. Moss came to fruition with the opening of their brick-and-mortar winery located in southern Napa. Julie Hagler-Lumgair joined the team as Consulting Winemaker; a rising star who after working with James and Janet on their first Russian River Valley Chardonnay further expanded her role and support again with the full range of J. Moss wines and new vineyard sourcing since 2012.
Today, J. Moss produces elegant single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from individual blocks of estate and negociant fruit across the Napa Valley. Their passion for great wine is expressed across terroirs, from valley floor to mountain hillsides, and are well reflected in each bottling.
This small, hands-on family winery is the result of 30+ years combined experience in the wine industry between James and Janet Moss. James’ dream has always been to produce quality Napa Valley wines, what he considers to be he ultimate region for producing Cabernet Sauvignon.
