Compañía de Vinos Tricó

Tricó is the Gallego word for a child who is born well after his or her brothers and sisters. Proprietor José Antonio López named this wine after his last son, who arrived as a “blessing” well after José Antonio and his wife thought they were through having children, in much the same way that the Tricó project itself was born somewhat unexpectedly after López decided to pursue his own personal project after a successful career making wine for several other top Rías Baixas estates. Now farming around ten hectares in the southern (and increasingly high-profile) Condado do Tea zone right on the Portuguese border, López makes a couple terrific Albariños with zero wood and zero malolactic fermentation: a ripping-good everyday quaffer called ‘Tabla de Sumar’ and a longer-elevage flagship wine that is truly profound, spending upwards of a year and half on the lees in tank and an equal time in bottle before release for a truly sui generis expression of Spanish white wine.
